Phillip Phillips Debuts New Song “Don’t Tell Me”

Phillip Phillips’ summer tour 2016 may go down in the books as the tour that just kept on giving. That’s because Phillip decided to debut another new song last night during his show in Columbus, OH. Shortly before going on stage he teased that there was going to be a surprise during the show, and sure enough, it was the debut of brand new song “Don’t Tell Me.” This is in addition to”Magnetic,” which he debuted early on in the tour, and frequent appearances of “Dance with Me” on the set list. It seemed impossible just a few weeks ago when we had not heard one note from the album, to now, where there may be three new songs making the rotations on the set list.

The song features an 80s inspired guitar riff and a more straight forward rock beat than many of Phillip’s earlier songs. Like “Magnetic,” the song has a instantly memorable melody but still grooves heavily with dark and sexy undercurrents. The performance last night was highlighted by Phillip’s amazing vocals, and an incredible performance by his band, in particular Nate Mercerau’s rocking guitar solo and Joel Behrman’s funky horns.
