Phillip Phillips in Stevens Point, WI 11/10/2013

Phillip Phillips performed at Quandt Fieldhouse in Stevens Point, WI last Sunday, and we had our photographer Sylvia on location. She had the pleasure to take amazing shots for the site straight from the “pit” at the show. Check it out!

“Despite the much anticipated show being rescheduled due to Phillips’ illness earlier this year, thousands of eager fans showed up at the Stevens Point, WI Quandt Fieldhouse on Sunday November 10, to greet the star to their hometown. Many stood in line in the freezing cold temperatures for hours to get a front spot for the amazing performance they were about to experience.

According to an interview by Chris Jones, from Stevens Point Journal, Phillip said “I care about the fans and playing shows, I just love playin’ out live man, that’s the only place I feel at home.” Well Stevens Point sly1definitely made Phillips feel at home that night, greeting him with a huge round of applause and cheers when he came out on stage, all the way through and even after the show was over.

Phillips always walks out on stage casually, he is quite modest and has said in the past that he doesn’t like being the center of attention, and prefers jamming with his band, which consists of amazing musicians Errol Cooney, Gorden Campbell, Bobby Sparks, Courtney Leonard and Philip Dizack. Once he and his band start the show with his up tempo “Get Up Get Down” the crowd immediately feels the energy and starts to dance and sing along. You can feel Phillips’ electricity when he performs, it’s where he feels most at home, and it’s an amazing experience to witness live.

Even though the show was on a Sunday, several younger fans got to experience it without worrying about waking up for school the next morning, it being Veterans Day the next day. Phillips talked to the crowd about there not being school tomorrow, so “Live for today!”

Phillips continued his set of amazing songs from his platinum-selling album “The World from the Side of the Moon,” which will be re-releasing a 1 year anniversary edition of the album this month, Nov 19, including 3 live versions of “Gone, Gone, Gone,” “Where We Came From,” and “Man on the Moon.” The crowd sang along and danced to every song, and were competely mesmerized when Phillips performed his slower songs including “A Fool’s Dance” and “Tell Me a Story.”

The highlight of the evening’s performance was when Phillips played his multi-platinum selling hit “Home.” He starts the song off with a jazzy bluesy intro, including an amazing guitar solo by the musician himself. He acknowledges the band, and goes right into a sexy version of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get it on,” which always works the crowd into a frenzy. The entire crowd clapped and sang along to “Home,” as well as chanted the ‘Oh oh oh’s’ at the end, just as the ecstatic crowd at Rock in Rio Brazil did earlier this year. Phillips seems to be getting more comfortable with interacting with the crowd and making his shows as fun as possible for everyone.

As Phillips and the band finished “Home,” the crowd roared with applause and cheers, so he came back onstage for an encore. It was just Phillips with his guitar performing his beautiful song “A Fool’s Dance” and then his band rejoined him for his amazing rap medley with covers by Eminem, Lil Wayne and DJ Khaled, which always seems to be a crowd pleaser. He put on an amazing energy packed show from start to finish!

Phillips is a true artist, musician, singer and performer, and I truly recommend seeing him live, you will not be disappointed.” – Review by Sylvia G

Phillip Phillips Debuts New Song in Ohio

jpeg

Phillip Phillips played at  the Midland Theatre in Newark, Ohio, last Saturday, November 9.

After his usual high-energy set, Phillips surprised the lucky audience when he debuted a brand new song during the encore.

Playing by himself and accompanied only by his guitar, the short song has a delicate, mournful melody and dark, haunting lyrics. The video was captured by a fan at the show. “Ghostly Man”, as the fans have unofficially titled the song, is not the first song Phillips has debuted while on tour. Last year he debuted “Take Me Away” during a performance at a radio show, and during his solo tour earlier this year, he played at least two or three, so far unreleased and unnamed songs.

The beautiful, fan-given title comes from a line in the song:

“…A ghostly man, you cannot see
I’m dead to you as you are to me”

If this moving song (as well as all the other new, unreleased ones)  is any indication, Phillips’ next album will showcase even more the deep, darker style of song writing that was evident in many of the songs he wrote for The World From The Side Of The Moon

Check out the full set list, video and audio of the song below!
