It’s Phillip Phillips’ Summer and We’re Here for It

Phillip Phillips’ new album Drift Back, is coming out in a mere 12 days on June 9. His first in 5 years, the album will also be the first since becoming a dad and going through the global trauma of the pandemic.

In preparation, Phillip has been ramping up in activities, releasing 4 songs from the album in 4 months, “Dancing With Your Shadows,”  “Love Come Back to Me,” “Before I Loved You,” and “So Will I.” This is in addition to “Love Like That,” which he released in April 2022.

He has not yet shared the tracklist of Drift Back, but this could very well be close to half of the songs on a full-length album.

Overall, the themes of the songs have been about love, not the butterflies in the stomach kind, but the mature, complex relationships that test us and make us question ourselves and our love; the trials of relationships and the limitations of love. Moving and very personal, the songs naturally hint at the growth Phillip has experienced as a musician and a person in the last five years.

As part of his promotional activities, Phillip has also done a number of interviews to announce his upcoming album.

He talked to People Magazine in April in an exclusive, candid interview and appeared in the Songfacts Podcasts through a warm, long conversation. More recently, he appeared in a short, but great sit-down interview on ABC News.

On May 10, Phillip also announced a four-date mini-tour called “The Drift Back Sessions,” going from June 15 to June 23, plus his debut at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville and a few other one-off shows. Check out the stops and dates (announced so far) on his official site here.

Phillip has also been doing a great series of videos on his YouTube channel, sort of like an extension of his Tik Tok videos. Check them out here if you haven’t or if you still haven’t made your way to that app (like me).

Finally, Phillip will be performing at this year’s Memorial Day Concert in Washington, DC tomorrow, Sunday, May 28th.  The concert will be live-streamed on PBS’ website. You can watch it here!

It’s a lot to catch up to and we’re sure much more it’s to come from Phillip. We can’t wait for June 9th and what will surely be the summer of Phillip Phillips! What a time to be a fan!

Phillip Phillip fans were in for a pleasant surprise this past week when Phillip released the third single for his upcoming studio album just a week after the release of his latest music video. Phillip Phillips Releases Video for New Song Dancing With Your Shadows

Phillip Phillips’ new video for “Dancing With Your Shadows” dropped yesterday, March 1. “Dancing With Your Shadows” was released on February 10. It’s a moody, darker entry to Phillip’s usually more colourful video catalog.

Since his debut in 2012, Phillip Phillip has experimented freely with his songwriting, most clearly in his second album Behind the Light (2014), where he explored the many ways in which a song can be shaped. Collateral (2018), while still a rich, multi-genre album, pointed in the direction his music has been taking in more recent years, which is leaning into more to-the-point songs that deliver their message efficiently. Continue Reading →

Last Tuesday, August 23rd, Phillip Phillips gave fans the news they have been waiting for for over two years: he’s finally going on tour!

The “Where We Came From” tour will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the release of his first album, The World From The Side of The Moon, which came out on November 12, 2012. The tour’s name makes reference to the song “Where We Came From” from the same album.

Phillip announced the tour via Instagram and Twitter, and said he will be accompanied by American Authors as “special guests.”

The 15-date tour will start in Fort Worth, TX on October 20 and close exactly a month later on November 19 in New Haven, CT with stops in Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, and Georgia, among others, along the way. No West Coast dates were announced.

Phillip’s last official tour was in January 2020. That tour, a month-long set of dates Phillip did with long-time collaborator Errol Cooney, ended in February 2020, just before the world and all our lives were changed forever by the pandemic. This means this outing is the first time fans will be able to follow Phillip for several dates in a row since the dark days of the pandemic.

In addition to playing songs from “The World From The Side of The Moon,” Phillip promised on his tour announcement to be “sneaking in a few new songs” as well.

Phillip has hinted numerous times he has been writing new music for the last two years. His last album, Collateral came out over four years ago on January 2018. He has also worked on a couple of collaborations (“Bring It On Home” with American Authors and Maddie Poppe and “Hold on to Your Love” with Walk Off the Earth) in the meantime and released his brand-new single “Love Like That.” The tour, therefore, may mean we will be finally getting a real preview of what is to come in 2023 in terms of new music. Exciting news indeed!

Tickets for the tour are now on sale. Please visit Phillip Phillips’official site to get your tickets.
