Phillip Phillips Rocks K-Days in Edmonton

Phillip Phillips and band made a quick stop in Canada last week for a packed show at the annual K-Days fair in Edmonton, Alberta. Phillip did a small Meet & Greet before the show and later helped warm up the cool summer night with his usual passion and brilliantly funky jams. Check out some amazing photos of the show below!

Phillip Phillips Helps Honour Veterans at Freedom Fest

Phillip Phillips was in Wisconsin this past weekend to play a show as part of the 8th annual Freedom Fest. The temperature was high but that didn’t stop Phillip and band from playing an amazing set for the fans, some of whom had driven great distances to attend the show. The annual event helped raise funds for Veteran causes and included an emotive and solemn tribute to Wisconsin’s fallen service members.

Phillip is no stranger to events such as Freedom Fest, often dedicating his music and time to celebrate those who serve, as he did earlier this year during his first trip as part of the USO Tour. And celebrate and honour he did, with a short but powerful set that made those in attendance forget the heat at least for a few minutes. No new covers or original songs were played, but he did bring out his beautiful “Eleanor Rigby” cover to start the show.

Phillip Phillips and Dave Eggar at Stanford Live

Phillip Phillips and Dave Eggar played an intimate acoustic show last night at the beautiful Stanford Bing Concert Hall, in Stanford, CA. Although Phillip and Dave have played innumerable shows together in the last few years, this was the first time that they played a full acoustic show as a duo. With the prestigious Stanford University campus as the setting, the show was the perfect showcase for the wonderful collaboration that has developed between Phillip and Dave, and provided the opportunity to delve even deeper into their rich musical vocabulary.

With only a cello, a guitar (well, a couple of guitars) and Phillip’s voice, they filled the concert hall with warm, dazzling, and virtuoso renderings of a few of Phillip’s songs and a couple of new covers, including a spectacular cover of Radiohead’s “Paranoid Android”.

If the whole show in itself was a highlight, a few other details made it a night to remember for those in the audience and fans all over the Internet. Indeed, just minutes before the show started, Phillip did his first ever live stream over Periscope, allowing fans to see him, Dave and the crew getting ready and then live streaming some magical moments of the show. For the lucky audience in Stanford, the night was filled with beautiful acoustics, extraordinary music and candid conversation from Phillip. The show demonstrated again the diversity of Phillip’s live performances, the depth of his musical collaboration with Dave Eggar, and the fact that no matter where he is, Phillip Phillips’ shows are not to miss.

Phillip Phillips at Lauderdale Live

Phillip Phillips helped some lucky Florida fans usher summer last night with a hot and funky set at the Lauderdale Live music festival in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Though it had been rumored that Phillip would debut new music from his upcoming third album (Phillip has indicated through a number of tweets he’s been busy writing), this was not to be.

However, new music was not needed as Phillip and band did what they do best, which is jam out and play gorgeous and ever surprising extended versions of almost each song. Phillip also did a repeat of his awesome new cover of Living Colour‘s “Cult of Personality” (debuted last week during his show in Fort Knox, KY). This song, a 1988 hit by Living Colour, was tackled with gusto by the whole band, in particular by JJ Smith, who killed it on the song’s famous bass line.

Also, the elusive “Don’t Trust Me” made another appearance on the set list, but this time with a beautiful and funky new jam at the end of it. Check out Phillip and band covering “Cult of Personality” and then listen to audio from the whole show below!

Phillip Phillips at Universal Mardi Gras

Phillip Phillips and band played a rocking show Saturday night as part of Universal Studios‘ Mardi Gras concerts. The lucky Orlando crowd was treated to an hour and a half of pure Phillip Phillips energy and ever impressive musicianship. Phillip was joined by his incredible band, JJ Smith on bass, Jason Thomas on drums, Bobby Sparks on keys and organ, Joel Behrman on trumpet and trombone and Nate Mercereau on guitar.

Phillip set the mood of night from the very first song, a heavy cover of “Eleanor Rigby,” not a new cover for Phillip, but a reworked one with heavier drums, new brass arrangement and an overall more straight forward sound. “Trigger” and “Lead On” followed, both featuring extended jams that show again that Phillip is not afraid to explore and expand his songs and lead the audience into a deep musical ride. Other amazing moments included a new mini-jam within a jam in “Lead On,” and a darker than ever intro to “Man on the Moon.” He then brought it all home again with a new, “back to the roots” version of “Home.” Check out some videos and the audio from the full show below!

Phillip Phillips At The Ryman

Phillip Phillips made a stop at the historic Ryman Auditorium, in Nashville, Tennesee, as part of his extensive Behind The Light fall tour. Built in 1891, the Ryman is an U.S. National Historic Landmark and one of the homes of the Grand Ole Opry. A country and bluegrass music institution, the Ryman was the home of the Johnny Cash show and has seen innumerable country stars, and musicians from every possible genre, grace its stage.

Is no surprise then that anticipation for this show was high, not only among fans, but Phillip and the band. Though there were no new additions to the set list or new songs played that night, Phillip made sure to make his show at the Ryman an unforgettable one. He accomplished this when he invited pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph, from the Robert Randolph & the Family Band, to join him on stage during “Fly” to recreate his killer solo from the album. To say it was epically delivered would be an understatement.

The lucky audience was also able to enjoy the addition of the brilliant Dave Eggar on cello, back with Phillip after missing the northwest leg of the tour, and Mark Lettieri on guitar, covering for Errol Cooney (currently on tour with Stevie Wonder). Of course the rest of Phillip’s band, Joel Behrman on trumpet and trombone, JJ Smith on bass, Bobby Sparks on keys and Jason Thomas on drums, all helped Phillip to play one of his most powerful and intense sets yet. Phillip honored the venue with his passion and skill and demonstrated that he completely belonged on that legendary stage.

Check out the set list, as well as some cool fan photos and videos from the night, below!
