Phillip Phillips Plays at Closing Ceremony for Invictus Games

Last night Phillip Phillips played a touching and heartfelt acoustic set at the Closing Ceremony for the 2nd Invictus Games. Held for the first time in 2014 in London, England, the 2016 Invictus Games took place in Orlando, Florida, and brought close to 500 athletes from 14 countries–all active or veteran Service men and women–to celebrate their unconquered spirit.

The Games were founded by Prince Harry, who was present through the 4 days of events in Orlando. For the Closing Ceremony show, Phillip reunited with Dave Eggar on cello and Nate Mercereau on guitar. The Trio played a short 5 song set that included renditions of “Unpack Your Heart,” “Gone Gone Gone,” and “Raging Fire” in quick succession, clearly some of Phillip’s most beloved and inspiring songs. It was fitting, since the entire Games and Closing Ceremony were full of touching stories and moments highlighting the strength of body and character of all the competing athletes, and their families. The show also marked a start of sorts for Phillip’s upcoming summer tour, with only four more weeks to go before the tour’s first show on June 17 at the San Diego County Fair.
